I would love to work with you, let’s connect!
About Sylvia
From a young age, I’ve always loved meeting new people, hearing their stories, and discovering what really matters to them in life. That curiosity about people, along with wanting to understand how we feel and why we act the way we do, led me to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Simon Fraser University and a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at Adler University.
Over the past 16 years, I’ve worked in healthcare, mainly in mental health and substance use, in a variety of roles and with many different people. My focus has always been on offering compassionate support, guidance, and advocacy, helping people navigate challenges and work toward recovery and wellness. I started my professional journey in research, exploring mental health challenges and how they show up in everyday life. As a Clinical Researcher, I worked with leading experts in psychiatry and co-authored several published research articles, helping to deepen our understanding of mental health and well-being. While I loved research, I realized I wanted to connect with people more directly, to offer support in a personal and meaningful way. That naturally led me into counselling, and I have been practicing as a Clinical Counsellor for 10 years.
My own journey has also shaped the way I work. Experiencing burnout, anxiety, depression, and ADHD firsthand has given me a deeper understanding of what it’s like to face these challenges. I’ve learned the importance of asking for help, looking after yourself, and creating a strong support network. After many years doing frontline crisis work, my partner and I chose a slower, more intentional lifestyle, moving to Campbell River in 2019 to be closer to nature. Raising two young children has brought new challenges—including postpartum anxiety and figuring out how to manage ADHD amid the chaos of family life—but it’s also taught me a lot about how our mental health is tied to the people and environments around us.
Over time, I’ve come to really value healthy communication, empathy, and mutual support in relationships. Learning to speak up for my needs, set boundaries, and prioritize self-care has become central to my life—and to my work. In my private practice, I’m passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families build stronger, more resilient relationships and understand their own mental health more fully. Together, we explore how mental health connects with relationships and everyday life, with the goal of empowering people to create lives that reflect their values, needs, and what matters most to them.
